CVOR driver abstract or 3-year driver record: which one you were asked for

They are two different records about the same driver. The 3-year driver record is the ministry's ordinary driving history - driver identification details, demerit point total, active fine suspensions, Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code convictions and suspensions from the past 3 years - and it is emailed by the ministry as a PDF immediately. The CVOR driver abstract is "a five-year record of collisions, safety-related offences, convictions and inspections relating to a driver" while operating a commercial vehicle in Ontario, shown on screen to whoever orders it. If the request said "abstract" or "driving record" with no mention of CVOR or commercial vehicles, it meant the 3-year record.

The 3-year record covers, per ServiceOntario: driver identification details, demerit point total, active fine suspensions, Highway Traffic Act convictions from the past 3 years, Criminal Code of Canada convictions from the past 3 years, and suspensions and reinstatements from the past 3 years. It does not include the driver's address. Anyone can order it with the licence number.

The CVOR driver abstract covers, per the ministry's CVOR page: a five-year record of collisions, safety-related offences, convictions and inspections relating to a driver, limited to when the driver was operating in Ontario, plus the driver licence status and medical due date. It is available to the general public, and the order form asks only for the licence number.

The 3-year uncertified record is emailed by the ministry as a PDF, immediately, to the address on the order. The CVOR driver abstract is shown on screen to whoever ordered it - the ministry's form says it "can be viewed online, saved and printed" - and is not emailed by the ministry to anyone. Ordering the wrong one

Each is a separate search with a separate fee, so ordering one when you needed the other costs both fees. The ministry charges for the search whether or not the result is what you wanted, and so does every reseller including us. Ask whoever requested the record which one they meant, and if they said "CVOR", order the CVOR driver abstract; if they did not, order the 3-year record. What a CVOR driver abstract actually contains will settle it in a sentence.

Common questions

Does the CVOR driver abstract include demerit points?

The ministry's description of it lists collisions, safety-related offences, convictions, inspections, licence status and medical due date, and does not mention a demerit point total. The demerit point total is listed as part of the 3-year driver record.

Can I get both in one order?

Not here, and not on one ministry form: they are ordered through different ministry systems with different fees. Order each on its own page.

Which one shows a licence suspension?

The 3-year record lists active fine suspensions and suspensions and reinstatements from the past 3 years. The CVOR driver abstract shows the driver licence status, which is a different field.
